When I first heard about the youth ATV ban I almost fell over. I couldn't believe such blatantly bad legislation could be contrived without the slightest thought about the consequences when people were suddenly stripped of the ability to buy small ATVs for kids.
I knew the reaction would not be one that would get more kids off ATVs, it would be one of more kids riding adult sized ATVs. Most of us know Why Size Matters on an ATV.
And we all know how that's probably going to work out...
The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) knows and is telling Congress what we've been saying since the beginning of this entire youth ATV lead ban; that the threat from kids getting lead poisoning is unfounded. Unless, of course, the kids decided to eat the ATVs.
So the MIC went to Congress to state their case, and in the process delivered some 4,000 letters from industry professionals who have been impacted by this attempted outright ban on youth ATVs in the Consumper Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).
When MIC Chairman Larry Little said in a recent press release:
Our Industry has a voice and we believe Congress is hearing us loud and clear.
It made me realize how important it is to stop the potential un-doing some of the real progress we've made over the last several years when it comes to ATV safety and responsibility.
