ABC's Weir Goes Easy on Religion and Palin-Bashing 'Family Guy'

ABC reporter Bill Weir didn't exactly grill Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane when he interviewed him for Nightline's ongoing "Seriously Funny" segment on Monday. The journalist failed to bring up some of the most egregious examples of MacFarlane's cartoon vulgarity, including a March 8 episode that featured bestiality jokes, a gay-hating Jesus Christ and an 11-way gay orgy. Instead, Weir only vaguely alluded to such instances and asserted: "But, like those other cartoons, his shows raise the most ire with religious and parental watchdog groups. If there is a taboo line, chances are MacFarlane has leaped over it." He did read off a list of topics the show has skewered and then wondered: "Where is the line for you? Is there a line or is that the point?" Once again, however, Weir had no specifics to follow-up. Did he ask about the October 19, 2008 episode in which the program's baby character, Stewie Griffin dressed up as a Nazi and wore a McCain/Palin button? No. MacFarlane, a Barack Obama supporter and liberal Democrat, wasn't forced to talk about that particular low blow.

  • For a beginner in meditation there are few guidelines which can help him in going deep into the meditation. These recommended guidelines or abc's of meditation are as follows:

    1. Meditation should be practiced every day. One should be regular and sincere in the meditation. If possible then practice the meditation at the same time every day.
    2. Creating a special meditation space helps in the deepening of meditation. Meditation space gets charged with our meditation energy over a period of time.
    3. One should sit with the spine straight and vertical. It is helpful if we can sit with crossed legged position. But for western people it is not easy to sit in a cross legged position, so its OK if they use chair.
    4. Its helps to keep the eyes close in the beginning and use some hand mudras.
    5. If you are doing sitting meditation then do not sit directly on the earth. Use a mat or piece of cloth and sit on top of it. This is to prevent the energy going into the earth.
    6. Meditation should be preferably done before a meal rather than after a meal. We are more bound to feel sleepy after the meal.
    7. Early morning time is one of the best time for meditation provided our sleep is complete.
    8. Meditation can be done at any time of the day but one should be fresh and alive. With a tired body or mind we can not meditate easily at a beginner level.
    9. Its OK, if thoughts trouble us in the beginning. This is bound to happen and the reason is that these thoughts are always there but now we are becoming aware of them. Just witness them and soon they will lose their energy as they feed on our energy, cooperation or identification.
    10. Meditation needs time, persistence and patience from our side. We should not make meditation any goal to be achieved. Mind tends to make goal out of any thing. Avoid it and instead watch this tendency of the mind.
    11. There is no need to be serious in meditation but one has to be sincere in the meditation.
    12. Meditation is a personal experience and every one has unique experiences in the meditation. So there is no need to compare notes with fellow meditators as some times it can lead to confusion. In general every one is at different level of meditation and our energy states are different. There are various meditation experiences and they always vary from person to person. Its OK, if you are not having any meditation experience which others are having. Mind craves for experiences in meditation, So better watch this tendency of the mind.

  • Evan loves to sing the alphabet song. He's growing up so fast!!! I tried to get him to say, "See ya later dude" at the end--his new phrase he started saying out of nowhere this week. He's only said it in front of me a few times, but will never say it upon request. He never does any of his cute things upon request, so you can imagine how proud I was to at least get the alphabet on video. Normally, he won't preform when I want him to.

  • Isn't this the cutest little quilt? Sorry it's not a very good picture but the fabric is really nice and bright in color. She used the red minkie for the backing and has a red meander/stipple all over. What a fun way for the little ones to learn their ABC's In a previous post I mentioned getting some minkie, well here it is. I can't wait to get to use it. Love the brown one and the tie die one, oh darn I love them all. Another customer baby quilt. This one is cute too, my camera did not take good pictures this day. On this one too she used the minkie for the backing. That minkie is getting very popular for backing now. It's especially nice for baby quilts. Here is on of my quilts. I made it awhile back and finally got a chance to get it on the machine. It's from the book called "Happy Hour, love that book... That looks like a piece of black fabric right there in the middle but it's not, it's dark green. I am blaming it on the camera again because it isn't all that dark in real life. I had a new panto pattern so I tried it on here and loved it. Ebb and Flow and I used an olive green thread. It turned out nice and I'm happy with it. Not sure yet what I will do with it or who will get it. Here is the backing. Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful weekend.:)

  • Lately Cameron has started 'reciting his ABCs'. Basically repeating the sounds whenever he feels like it. At first, it would be while he was holding a book, magazine, anything that had pictures on it. He'd point at the picture and say in his "Cameron-ese" whatever he felt that the picture was. Here's a video of him doing it while sitting at his chair watching Duran Duran in concert on the tv. You can faintly hear the song "Wild Boys" in the background.
